When the Insurgency engulfed Sri Lanka in 1989 tea was hard to find. Undaunted, Mama D, Kaley’s master tea maker’s mother rekindled a century-old tradition.
She hand-picked tea leaves and sundried them and subsequently pounded the leaves on a stone mortar and fired in an open hearth which resulted in the creation of a masterpiece, a full-bodied strong cup of tea with slightly smoked tones.
